Hey all! Welp...
Was the wait worth it? For you guys (If I were you, and not the author), I'd say "no." The story grinded to a halt for a few weeks over 10 seconds of animation that probably could have been tackled a different way. you'd be forgiven for thinking the strip randomly died, especially with no explanation.
Was it worth it for me, as a creator? Absolutely. I got to try out an animation technique (a rotating perspective in 2D, where backgrounds are hell if you have to redraw them, but move them slightly) I'd never properly attempted before, and it came out looking relatively decent. I'd never find an opportunity to test out something like this on my own, and that's one of the mission goals for the Crimson Fly's existence: to become a better artist through working on an ongoing project.
Was it worth it? Absolutely. I have one more tool in my toolbox to make this comic even better, and I know my limits stretch even further than I thought they did. Granted, I also learned that I need to start allocating time towards R&D rather than learning on the fly, but I think that payoff was worth the cost.
Will this happen again in the future? Probably, though probably not with as much frequency. Not every strip has to be an animation spectacle, after all. But I will do my best to be more "open" about when they occur (maybe posting WIP versions while I work so you guys aren't entirely in the dark?). If you're still reading (both this comic and the post): Thank you for your patience, and I'll see you next week.
